Don’t forget to involve stepparents in your ceremony in some way, perhaps a reading during your ceremony or an invocation before dinner.

Do remember when purchasing your gown to be realistic about your expectations for losing weight. A gown can always be taken in, but rarely can it be let out without leaving stitch marks for all to see.

Do contact the church or synagogue were you will perform your ceremony and ask about any rules or guidelines regarding music. Some churches require that you use their organist.

Do remember your guests with small children. Instead of putting “no children” or “adults only reception” ask your reception site manager if there is a small room or play area near the festivities that may be available or that you can rent. Then hire a professional babysitter to take care of the kids. Parents will appreciate your consideration and be able to relax and enjoy your reception knowing they are close to their children.

This cake was covered in hundreds of fondant rose petals. It was interesting to do because I had to make so many petals- the bride also ordered a petal for each plate when the cake was served- and the cake had to be made hours before the wedding so the petals would stay firm.

Don’t forget to pamper yourself. Treat your mom and maids the day before the wedding with an afternoon at the spa. You’ll have the time of your life enjoying facials, massages, and pedicures. It will make you all feel more relaxed and beautiful.

Don’t seat older guests near the band or speakers as it may be hard for them to hear anything else.

There are several internet sites dedicated to wedding planning that allow you to take advantage of the wealth of information at your finger tips. Coordinate with vendors, make and confirm reservations, select flowers and review menus online.

This cake I made for a 70th birthday party for someone who was an avid fisherman. Short on time? I took a  plastic Wilton fisherman that I got at a party store and embellished him. Using fondant, I made the fishing vest, covered the boat, covered his hat and made the fish. I made little hooks out of wire and stuck them in the hat. I then made a fishnet out of wire and crinoline. The water was made with piping gel. I first covered the top of the cake with blue frosting and then put a thin coat of the gel down. (You don’t want to use a lot of this because it doesn’t taste great.)
