To Deposit or Not to Deposit

Wedding Tips No Comments »

When I am working with a bride, I require a deposit to book the date. I do not expect to get a deposit at this first consultation and the only time I show any urgency in receiving a deposit is if your wedding date is becoming popular one. Beware the vendors who want your money that instant. Make sure you understand what the refund policy is before you give anyone even a nickel.

Any money you give me is 100% refundable, for any reason, up until 2 weeks prior to the wedding date.

Every little detail

I am always humbled when I meet with my brides for the first time. Each one of them brings their own sense of energy and excitement, and are always going way out of their way to plan the “most memorable wedding ever” for their guests. So the next time you attend a wedding and then the reception, notice the napkins, the place settings, the floral arrangements, the lighting, the little baskets in the bathrooms! Each one of these things has been done, with you in mind, so you will share in their special day.

Cake Toppers

I was talking with a friend about what all the brides choose to put on the top of their cakes. I was telling her of all the options from floral to bride and groom to monograms to polymer clay people. She had gotten a plastic bride and groom from the bakery. I had butter cream flowers on mine. I have this plastic bride and groom that was on the bride-to-be grandmother’s cake. The plastic is all yellowed and the crinoline of the wedding dress is all out of shape, but the history of the topper makes it one of the most beautiful ones I have seen yet.

Color Samples

Wedding Tips, General No Comments »

When working on discussing a color with your baker, words such as Latte, Butter Rum and Chocolate are flavors, not colors. I urge my brides to bring paint color swatche that they can pick up  from the local Sherwin Williams, Home Depot or any hardware store. I do not need a piece of the 1 inch bride’s maid dress swatch that they were given at the dress shop. Remember that sending your baker a color swatch online does not translate well. Every computer/printer reads and prints out colors differently. An important FYI if getting the exact color is of utmost importance.

Cakes with a Conscience

I would like to thank all the brides that choose me create their wedding cake during the 2007 Wedding Season. Because of you, we (meaning you and I) were able to donate over $1800.00 to the Lakes Region United Way Food Programs and the Meredith Emergency Food Pantry.  I could not have done this without your patronage and for this, I am extremely grateful.

There are always seems to be dates that are more popular than other in a given wedding season. Brides are beginning to book into the month of October. The traditional “Season” slows down after September, and if you can wait a month or more, you can possibly realize significant savings!
